How It Works
The Patented Instant Decanter combines oxygenation and specially designed, high-intensity magnets built into the pouring spout, which rapidly improves wine as it is poured through the device. The BevWizard Wine Smoother and the BevWizard Whiskey Smoother are ingeniously designed and patented pouring devices that improve a number of different beverages.
BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother
The Whiskey Smoother improves many wood matured Whiskey, including many bourbons, scotches, cognacs, brandies, calvados, Irish and Canadian whiskies and oak matured tequilas.
Aging Whiskey, tequilas or whiskies in wood barrels improves flavor and richness at the expense of tannins which cause bitterness on the "finish". As tannic Whiskey or whiskies through a combination of oxygen and high-intensity magnetic field in the Whiskey Smoother's pouring spout, the structure of the tannins are quickly altered, yielding a softer, smoother mouthfeel as wooded spirits and whiskies are made to taste softer and richer.
Features
- Bitterness, bite and harshness in brown whiskies caused by oak tannins
- Many years of barrel age smoothes out these oak tannins at a price $$$$$
- Magnets alone can reduce harshness over weeks
- Aeration alone does NOT alter oak aged whiskies
- Has a DRAMATIC effect to virtually eliminate the harshness, bite and bitterness otherwise found in Scotch, Cognac, Anejo Requila, Bourbon, Tennessee and Canadian whiskey.
How To Use
About Taste Preferences:
No device can make every whiskey better. Not everyone has the same texture or taste preferences. We offer our BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother as an accessory that works on most oaked whiskies, particularly those that have been aged in barrel for 12 years or less. That said, we offer our device as an option that some consumers will use very frequently, and others less frequently. We like to use the coffee analogy...if you have a personal preference for strong coffee, you may not expect your guests to share that preference. As such, you may offer some hot water to dilute the strong coffee, or sugar to reduce the bitterness, or cream to soften and smooth the coffee. The Instant Whiskey Smoother is the "sugar or cream" for oak aged whiskey, allowing those with different preferences to enjoy the same bottle of whiskey. Most will find that they will always reach for the BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother whenever they reach for a drink.
Steps to Using the BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother
- Open up your whiskey bottle and place the Instant Whiskey Smoother onto the bottle.
- Pour yourself a taste and enjoy the smooth, silky texture.
- Optional: remove the Instant Whiskey Smoother and pour yourself another taste. For nearly all oak aged whiskies, this taste will be harsher.
- Return the Instant Whiskey Smoother to the bottle and enjoy.
- When you're finished, just rinse the Instant Decanter with tap water.
There's a reason why we suggest that you first try a taste first with and then without the Instant Whiskey Smoother. Harshness and bitterness found in oak aged whiskies can linger on the palate for 5 minutes or longer. Technically, it's just much easier to go from smoother to harsher. We strongly suggest that since the BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother yields a richer, smoother and mellower drink, that you first try the whiskey with the pourer and then try it without. Focus upon the vanilla and spice characters, the degree of roundness in the mouth versus the degree of drying (astringency). Also focus upon the length of finish and the degree of bitterness left on the palate. If one insists on trying the whiskey first without the pourer, then please give your palate at least several minutes to recover from the tannins and oak after the initial tasting.
The Instant Whiskey Smoother will give you a better drink if you drink the whiskey straight up, with water, with ice or as a mixed drink.
Care & Maintenance
When you're finished using your Instant Whiskey Smoother, hand wash it with water and let it dry.
No other care or maintenance is required!
What gives whiskey harsh, bitter flavors?
We're talking about brown whiskey that has been aged or treated with oak. The oak gives vanilla, clove and other spice flavors, sometimes with some smokiness as well. To really get the whiskey smooth, it may be necessary to age it for more than 12 years in an oak barrel, which is very expensive.
For all other oak aged whiskies, the BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother has a profound effect in smoothing out the harsh, bitter edges to deliver a deliciously mellow drink.
What are oak aged whiskies? These include:
Scotch whisky, Tennessee whiskey, Irish whisky, Canadian whiskey, bourbon, anejo tequila, cognac, Armagnac, many brandies and calvados.

Take the Whiskey Challenge
BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother Challenge
Open a bottle of whiskey and attach the Instant Whiskey Smoother first and pour a sample into each glass. Then remove the pourer from the bottle and pour another sample and taste. Most people will find that the BevWizard renders a much softer, smoother and richer taste. The Instant Whiskey Smoother provides the consumer a tool to smooth a given whiskey (or the option not to) and adds another dimension to drinking whiskey. Taste preference is a personal matter...some may prefer tannic whiskies while others prefer a smoother version of the same whiskey poured through the Instant Whiskey Smoother. It enables the host to cater to his or her guests' taste preferences. Just remember, always taste-test your whiskies using the Instant whiskey smoother first, and then taste without the pourer.
Better yet, pour small portions of whiskey into separate glasses for friends and guests, one with and one without the Instant Whiskey Smoother pourer, without telling them which glasses are which...then have them "blind taste" the whiskies. As they experience the distinct differences, they will discover the smoother texture and richness that appears from behind the tannins!
Test Drive the Whiskey Smoother
Test-Driving the BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother
Here are some simple steps to get the most out of your BevWizard Instant Whiskey Smoother. The device is intended to decrease the bite, bitterness and harshness in oak aged whiskies. These include brown whiskies such as Scotch, bourbon, cognac, anejo tequila and Jack Daniels. Our devices do NOT have any significant effect upon clear spirits like vodka or gin!
Here are a few suggestions so that your evaluation is optimal.
- Get ready for some dramatic differences. Focus upon bitterness and the finish of the whiskey.
- Always try a sample through the Instant Whiskey Smoother prior to a sample without the Instant Whiskey Smoother since it is easier to go from smooth to harsh than vice versa.
- If you are going to use a water rinse at any time, use bottled water as chlorine can ruin your palate for several minutes.
- Leave a couple of minutes between one taste and another to allow your palate to recover.
These suggested whiskies include:
- Scotch whisky (blends and single malts, 12 years old and younger)
- Tennessee whiskey (Jack Daniels)
- Bourbon
- Cognac (younger to 12 years old)
- Armagnac
- Canadian whiskey
- Rye whiskey
- Irish whiskey (younger)
- Anejo tequila
- Calvados
